Analogue or digital photography?
A confession before: Analogue photography I consider a step back and not really reasonable. But do you always have to be reasonable? Sometimes the fun should be in the foreground. And so we are in the case of analogue photography, which is currently attractive again for a small but growing minority.
There are still films available as well as photographic laboritories. Howeve, the good laboratories are expensive and the analogue photography turns into a relatively expensive luxury. In contrast to film purchase and film development, cameras are relatively cheap, but the used prices are rising.
Using a camera system in which the lenses can be connected both to digital cameras and to analogue cameras gives us flexibility. Examples are, inter alia, Nikon SLR / DSLR cameras or Leica M cameras.
For the pictures on this page I used a Leica M6 viewfinder camera from the 80s of the last century with a 50mm lens from the 30s of the last century. I used a black and white film from Ilford (Pan 100 plus) with 100 ISO nominal sensitivity, which I exposed with 50 ISO.

The following three examples show the same motif in each case. I have not always taken the same camera position, because the idea with the image comparison came afterwards. The first or left image is analogous with a 50mm lens. The second image is digital (Leica M) with a 21mm lens. The digital images had to be cropped because of the wide angle lens, so that the test conditions for the digital versions even deteriorated. Nevertheless, the technical strength of digital photographs is relatively clear in the following comparisons.
Clicking on the following test images will lead you to the enlargement. The left image is always analog and the right image is digital:
Regardless of tonal values, sharpness and grain or noise, the subjective feeling of one or the other variant can be different. Since we are again in the question of the individual taste which can not only be important regarding the recipient of the picture. Also from the photographer's point of view, there may be preferences for digital or analogue photography because of different handlings. So there are different ways to follow our passion. In this respect the world is colorful, even in the black-and-white photography.
